The family, especially (but not only) in the Chinese speaking world, is a sweet and bitter place. We often hear about gay and lesbian Chinese people (especially those in Europe and America) talk about the difficulties of coming-out and how it might jeopardize their relations with family. They are afraid that their parents may not be able to bear the shock, that the parents will feel like they have failed their own parents and relatives, that they may disown them. But we still have a chance to find a way out of the pains and struggles within “the family” to construct a new, positive relation with family.
